Border People Seminar - The Frontier Worker

The Centre for Cross Border Studies in partnership with the North South Ministerial Council Joint Secretariat manages the Border People website - www.BorderPeople.info. Border People provides an online signposting service for people who wish to move across the Irish border to live, work or study. This website includes information on issues such as taxation, social security, job seeking, health, banking, education, housing and telecommunications.
As part of this initiative we hold regular seminars which address particular barriers to cross-border mobility which previously have included cross-border banking and consumer issues.
The fourth seminar took place in the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk and looked at issues facing frontier workers and businesses located in the border region. Guest speakers included Michael Carr Co-ordinator of EURES Cross-border Partnership
and Lisa Fegan, Chartered Accountant, John McMahon & Co.
. each with a wealth of knowledge and practical experience in cross border issues. They highlighted some of the challenges that are regularly encountered by individuals crossing the border to work and do business.

Organisations involved in the provision of cross-border information or individuals with an interest in specific aspects of cross-border employment are welcome to attend and your input would be most welcome. Feedback from participants is invaluable in helping us to shape the content of the Border People website as we continue to develop.
Other invitees include representatives from the North/South Ministerial Council Joint Secretariat; Citizens Advice Northern Ireland and Citizens Information Board; The Department of Social and Family Affairs and other Government Departments, North and South; the Special EU Programmes Body and the Cross Border Bodies; EURES Cross-Border Partnership, NI Enterprise Agencies, border County Enterprise Boards and Chambers of Commerce; and border Community and Voluntary Groups.
