Bank of Ireland

For customers in NI or GB holdin a BOI Maestro card issued on a UK account,

  • Buying goods or services abroad with a Maestro card will incur a fee of 2.75% of the amount spent (applied in Sterling)

For a Republic of Ireland Bank of Ireland customer

  • Paying for goods £100 with a debit card in NI will incur a charge of euro1.75 (based on the standard Bank of Ireland Maestro charge of 1.75% of the transaction amount with a minimum charge of euro0.46 and a maximum charge of euro11.43. This charge includes Bank of Ireland current account transaction fee, foreign exchange margin and international network fees).
Northern Bank National Irish Bank
  • National Irish Bank Maestro card transaction in Northern Ireland euro Equiv of £1.75 (1.75% of transaction value)
  • Northern Bank Maestro card transaction in republic of Ireland costs 2.75% of the value of the purchase.
Permanent TSB A permanent tsb customer paying for goods in Sterling with a debit card (Maestro) in Northern Ireland will incur a charge of 1.75% of euro value. (Minimum euro0.46. Maximum euro11.43). If the service provider (shop etc) allows the goods to be paid for in euro no additional change will apply.
Currency conversion is based on market rate on the day it is received.
Barclays

North to South (Barclays has no personal banking presence in the South)
Currency conversion based on market rate on the day it is received in UK for processing, which includes a 2.75% charge to cover Barclays handling costs and any VISA processing fees.

Note: This information relates to a customer paying  euro100 for goods or services in the South.  If the merchant operates ‘dynamic currency conversion’, different charges would apply.
